Hong Kong International Seafarer Services Centre Launched “2024 Day of Seafarer & China National Maritime Day ” Crew Visit Campaign
香港國際海員服務中心開展“2024世界海員日&中國航海日”船員慰問行動綜述
In celebration of “June 25 Day of Seafarer” and “July 11 China National Maritime Day”, the Hong Kong International Seafarer Services Centre (HKISSC), with the support of the Merchant Navy Officers’ Guild – Hong Kong and the Amalgamated Union of Seafarers, Hong Kong, partnered with shipping companies to carry out a port-of-call seafarer visitation and care initiative from June 1 to July 11.
“6.25世界海員日”及 “7.11中國航海日”之際，香港國際海員服務中心在香港商船高級船員協會與香港航業海員合併工會的支援下，攜手航運企業於6月1日至7月11日開展了抵港海員探訪慰問行動。
Upholding the Day of Seafarer 2024 theme of “Safety Tips At Sea” and the China National Maritime Day theme of “Smart Navigation, Bright Future”, this seafarer care initiative aimed to distribute seafarer welfare packages, souvenirs, and offer safety navigation tips and blessings to visiting seafarers of all nationalities. This effort highlights the care and concern of the two Hong Kong seafarer unions and the relevant shipping companies for the wellbeing of seafarers.
秉承2024年世界海員日主題““ Safety Tips At Sea”(海上安全,分享您的最佳提示)”及中國航海日主題“智慧航海 暢行未來”，中心此次海員慰問行動旨在向抵港的各國船員分享海員福利禮包、紀念品並致以安全航行的提示與祝福，以彰顯香港兩家海員工會及相關航運公司對海員的關切與關心。
The initiative was strongly supported by the Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), Seaspan Shipping, Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, Wan Hai Lines (Haifeng Shipping), Pacific International Lines, and other companies. The personnel from the crew departments of these companies not only promptly complied information about merchant ships arriving during the activity period, but also actively assisted the staff in obtaining port access permits. The representative from Anglo-Eastern even boarded the ship to participate in the on-board visitation and care activities.
此次活動得到了東方海外貨櫃航運有限公司(OOCL),Seaspan航運公司，Anglo Eastern船舶管理公司，萬海航運（海豐船務）及太平船務等公司的傾力支持，公司船員部負責人不但為中心及時匯總了活動期間抵港的商船資訊，積極協工作人員助辦理出入碼頭的通行證，Anglo Eastern的負責人還一同登輪參與了慰問活動。
During the activity period, the staff of HKISSC visited a total of 66 merchant ships and cared for over 1,500 seafarers, successfully completing the expected goals. The HKISSC promptly procured a substantial quantity of care items that were greatly appreciated by the seafarers. The staff worked tirelessly, despite adverse weather conditions to board the ships and complete the visitation tasks. During the onboard interactions, the staff introduced the purpose of the visitation, its mission and services of the HKISSC. They warmly conveyed the care, concern for safe navigation, and blessings from the two Hong Kong seafarer unions. This helped to further enhance the seafarers’ awareness and appreciation of the Centre and the two unions. Fr. Valan from the Apostleship of the Sea also joined the visitation team towards the later stage of the activity, providing additional spiritual comfort to the seafarers.
活動期間，中心共探訪了66艘商船，慰問海員1500余人，圓滿完成了預期目標。中心及時採購了大量的慰問物品，廣受海員的喜歡；工作人員不辭辛勞，經常於傾盆大雨中，或冒著烈日炎炎、酷暑濕熱登輪，確保完成探訪任務；登船與船員互動交流中，重點介紹此次探訪活動的目的、中心的宗旨與服務內容，熱情的傳達香港兩家工會對來港海員的關心、對安全航運的關切與祝福，令海員進一步增進了對中心及香港兩家海員工會的認知與好感。天主教海員服務組織the Apostleship of the Sea的Fr.Valan 神父亦在活動後期加入探訪團隊，令海員獲得更多的精神福祉。
In addition to the ships from the mentioned partner companies, HKISSC staff also made random visits to 21 other merchant vessels berthed in Hong Kong, many of which are flying flag of convenience and covered by FOC collective agreements. These spontaneous visits efforts extended the welfare, safety concerns and blessings from Hong Kong reached an even wider group of seafarers. The seafarers from countries including not only those from China (mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong), but also from countries such as the Philippines, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Ukraine, Russia, Greece, Romania, Tanzania, South Africa, Egypt, and Ghana all benefited from this activity.
除上述合作公司的船舶，中心工作人員亦隨機探訪了21艘其他公司靠泊香港的商船，這些商船很多都與工會簽署有方便旗船的集體協議，隨機探訪慰問讓香港的福利、安全關切與祝福惠及更多的海員。是次活動覆蓋的海員所在國家除中國（內地、臺灣與香港的船員）外，菲律賓、印度、印尼、韓國、緬甸、斯里蘭卡、新加坡、馬來西亞、烏克蘭、俄羅斯、希臘、羅馬尼亞、坦尚尼亞、南非、埃及、迦納等國籍的船員也在活動中收益。
The seafarers warmly welcomed the HKISSC’s staff and were deeply moved by the staff braving the high temperatures, scorching sun and heavy rain to board the ships. Upon receiving the welfare gift packs and souvenirs from the HKISSC, they expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the concern from the Merchant Navy Officers’ Guild – Hong Kong and the Amalgamated Union of Seafarers, Hong Kong.
